Applegate is the nation’s leading natural and organic meat brand. Since 1987, the company has been on a mission: Changing The Meat We Eat. That’s because we believe the way food is raised and produced has the power to transform lives—from the farmer who grows it to the person who eats it.

Applegate has driven change in the food industry in a number of ways, starting with producing meat without chemical preservatives and evolving to leading the effort to stop the misuse of antibiotics in animal agriculture. Today, Applegate continues its commitment to progressing our mission through a relentless pursuit of better and smarter ways to make food from animals and plants. This includes investing in pursuing non-GMO certification across the entire supply chain and committing to sourcing more animals from pasture-based or regenerative agriculture systems.

When Applegate began more than 30 years ago, the company sourced from only a handful of farms. Today, Applegate works with more than 2,000 partner farmers who are raising animals to Applegate standards—third-party animal welfare certified and without antibiotics. As a result, Applegate saves millions of pounds of antibiotics—keeping them out of the system and helping to prevent the growing public health crisis of antibiotic resistance.

Through the years, Applegate has partnered with many organizations dedicated to innovation and transparency in food systems, including the Pew Charitable Trusts and the National Young Farmer Coalition.
